Stauffer Library. Opened in the fall of 1994, the five-storey Joseph S. Stauffer Library is the largest library on campus, with room for approximately 1.5 million volumes, six kilometres of bookstacks, and study and research space for more than 1,200 students. It is located on the northwest corner of University Avenue and Union Street.

Stauffer Library at Queen's University has begun its phased reopening with 150 individual, bookable seats available to students on a first come, first serve basis. Special Bookable Spaces in Stauffer Library Reading rooms and general study areas in Stauffer Library are not available for booking by members of either the Queen's or Kingston communities. As these spaces are an integral part of the Stauffer Library public research space, events in these areas while the Library is open would be disruptive to Library use.

Groups of up to six (6) or individuals may book the Study Rooms. Rooms may be booked for total of two (2) hours per day per person/group. One-hour extensions are permitted, based on availability, fifteen minutes before the end of reservation (s). Rooms may be booked up to one (1) week in advance. Applicants must be at least 13 years of age.

The new spaces in Douglas Library are in addition to the 276 spaces available at Stauffer Library and the 13 spaces at the Education Library. Four spaces are also available in the Adaptive Technology Centre in Stauffer Library for students registered with Queen's Student Accessibility Services (QSAS). An additional 72 spaces are available in Mackintosh-Corry Hall.
